BerlinA YPOG team led by partner Benjamin Ullrich comprehensively advised European defence AI company Helsing on the latest funding round with a total volume of €102.5 million. As part of the Series A financing round, Prima Materia, the European investment company founded by Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek, invested €100 million into the Munich-based company. Existing shareholders, a group of British, French and German investors, also participated in this round. Alongside Helsing’s co-founders Torsten Reil, Gundbert Scherf and Niklas Köhler, Daniel Ek will join the company’s advisory board. The investment is subject to regulatory approval.

Helsing was founded in 2021 with offices in Munich, Berlin and London. The company aims to provide world-leading AI technology for defence and national security to liberal democratic nations. Helsing’s real-time software platform processes data from multiple sensors directly on vehicles and systems, to provide an integrated view of the operational environment with the aim of faster and more accurate decision-making. The company’s AI has been built to be traceable and explainable from the outset. Helsing will focus on serving countries which meet the highest democratic standards. The funding will be used to further strengthen the team of over 70 experts as of today and accelerate product development and delivery. To complete the setup with three markets, Helsing plans to found a subsidiary in France in the first quarter of 2022 in addition to its existing presences in the UK and Germany.
