Sara Apenburg

Sara advises IT companies, financial service providers and other national and international companies on all matters relating to data protection and IT law as well as general contract law, such as the drafting of general terms and conditions. Her focus is on advising on data protection law and financial regulatory requirements for IT and data security. Her advice extends to contentious and non-contentious matters as well as venture capital and M&A transactions.

Education and Career

Sara studied law in Kiel. She completed her legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Schleswig, inter alia, in the IT and data protection practice group of an international law firm in Munich as well as in the chamber for commercial matters at the Regional Court of Kiel.

Prior to joining YPOG, Sara worked as a lawyer at Eversheds Sutherland in Hamburg and Baker McKenzie and CMS Hasche Sigle in Munich.

Experience

Sara's recent work highlights particularly include:

  • Ongoing advice to one of the world's leading software manufacturers on all issues of IT law, data protection law, regulatory law and commercial law
  • Participation in the preparation of the official EVB-IT Cloud T&C, as published by the German Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology
  • Advising ICT third-party service providers and financial companies on IT and data protection requirements in connection with financial regulatory requirements of German and European supervisory authorities
  • Negotiations on the part of various internationally active, listed companies for the implementation of CRM systems
  • Preparation of and consulting on data protection concepts and policies for various companies
  • Advising financial service providers and regulated companies on IT legal requirements in connection with financial regulatory requirements, especially in the area of IT outsourcing
  • Involvement in numerous transactions, in particular the purchase or sale of IT companies
  • Advising various companies on all issues around the usage of open-source licenses
